As a part of the ongoing NSS Winter Special Camp 2025, Day 3 was marked by the successful organization of a Shram Daan and Cleanliness Drive at Government Degree College Kakryal, Katra. The activity was conducted with the objective of promoting cleanliness, social responsibility, and the spirit of voluntary service among students. The volunteers were motivated to actively participate in the drive with a sense of dedication and teamwork. In total, 40 NSS volunteers enthusiastically participated in cleaning the college campus and its surrounding areas. The drive included sweeping pathways, collecting plastic waste, clearing bushes, and proper disposal of garbage. The volunteers also created awareness among fellow students about the importance of cleanliness and environmental conservation, aligning with the objectives of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. The activity was carried out under the patronage of the Principal, Dr. Rajni Bhagat, who appreciated the sincere efforts of the NSS volunteers and encouraged them to continue such community-oriented initiatives in the future.

The second day of the NSS Special Winter Camp 2025 at Government Degree College, Kakryal, Katra, held on 24 December 2025. The programme was organized under the able guidance of the worthy principal of the college, Dr. Rajni Bhagat. The day commenced with a disciplined morning assembly, setting a tone of purpose, reflection and collective responsibility among the volunteers. The assembly reinforced the foundational values of the National Service Scheme and oriented participants towards a day of structured learning and field engagement. First session began with a comprehensive theoretical and practical session on the significance of yoga, conducted by Dr. Ishfaq Hussain Parry (PTI) on the theme “Importance and benefits of Yoga”. The session underscored yoga as an integrative discipline contributing to physical health, mental equilibrium and ethical self-regulation, particularly relevant for youth navigating contemporary stressors. This was followed by an awareness lecture on environmental sustainability by Dr. Usha Sharma (NSS PO), wherein critical issues such as ecological degradation, individual responsibility and community-led environmental stewardship were discussed with analytical depth. Complementing the lecture, volunteers actively engaged in a poster-making activity, creatively articulating messages on environmental protection and sustainable living. The second session of the day was marked by experiential learning through action. Volunteers undertook a massive cleanliness drive within the college campus, followed by an awareness rally leading to the temple in the adopted village of Dadura. Faculty members who graced the programme with their presence included Dr. Ishfaq, Dr. Abdul Hafiz and Mr. Bhushan. The programme culminated in a focused cleanliness drive around the temple premises, symbolising the integration of civic sense, cultural spaces and community participation. These activities reflected the NSS ethos of translating awareness into sustained public action. The third session was conducted by the officials from the Fire Works Department, Katra who further provided practical insights into fire safety, disaster preparedness and emergency response, enhancing the volunteers understanding of risk mitigation and public safety as essential components of responsible citizenship. In total 40 vounteers from semester I, III and V participated in the programme. Light refreshment was also distributed among the volunteers. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Usha Sharma, NSS Programme officer. The day concluded on a reflective and purposeful note, reaffirming the camp’s commitment to fostering socially conscious, physically resilient and intellectually informed youth. Through a balanced blend of academic discourse and grassroots engagement, the second day of the winter camp reinforced the transformative potential of disciplined service and informed action in nation-building.

The Red Ribbon Club, in collaboration with NCORD, and NSS unit of Government Degree College (GDC), Katra, organised an awareness rally on the occasion of World AIDS Day to spread awareness about HIV/AIDS and to promote prevention, care, and compassion towards people living with HIV.
The rally witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, volunteers, and faculty members of the college. Participants marched through nearby areas carrying banners and raised solgans to convey a strong messages on HIV prevention and the elimination of stigma and discrimination associated with the disease. The programme was organised under the able guidance of the Principal, Dr. Rajni Bhagat. The main objective of the event was to educate the general public about the modes of transmission of HIV, available preventive measures, and the accessibility of treatment facilities. On the eve of World AIDS Day i.e. 1st of December, 2025, Government Degree College Kakryal, Katra in collaboration with Red Ribbon Club organized a series of awareness activities aimed at educating students and promoting collective responsibility toward fighting HIV/AIDS. The event was organized under the able guidance of the principal of the college, Dr. Rajni Bhagat. The events included a Poster Making Activity and the Formation of a Human Chain, both designed to highlight the importance of prevention, compassion, and community engagement. The program commenced with an enthusiastic Poster Making Activity, in which students participated actively and creatively. They prepared posters centered on themes such as HIV/AIDS awareness, prevention strategies, ending stigma, and support for affected individuals. Following the poster activity, students and faculty gathered on the college grounds to form a Human Chain as a symbolic gesture of unity and collective commitment to fighting HIV/AIDS. The human chain represented solidarity with people living with HIV and a commitment to spreading awareness. The event sent a strong visual message to the community about the importance of standing together in support of global health initiatives. The department of History, Government Degree College kakryal,Katra successfully conducted fifteen days internship programme for undergraduate students to enhance their practical understanding of heritage, architecture and museum studies. The internship was organized at the historic Amar Singh Mahal, Jammu, a prominent heritage site known for its cultural significance and architectural beauty. The programme aimed to bridge classroom learning with real world historical exposure. The objective of the internship programme is to provide hands on learning about heritage conservation and museum practices, to study the architectural features and historical importance of Amar Singh Mahal, to develop research skill among students through field observation and guides study and to promote awareness regarding local history and cultural heritage. The outcome of the internship is to provide beneficial understanding to the students of applied history, to enhance documentation skill and also development of teamwork and communication skill through group tasks. The department expresses gratitude to the Principal, Dr. Rajni Bhagat for her guidance and also to the authorities of Amar Singh Mahal for their cooperation which contributed significantly to the success of the programme . The NSS Unit of Government Degree College (GDC) Katra takes immense pride in announcing that its volunteers have brought remarkable laurels to the institution by demonstrating exceptional performance in the District level Youth Parliament Programme held at Government Degree College Reasi on 26th of November 2025. Their dedication, leadership skills, and awareness of socio-political issues enabled them to stand out among participants from various colleges. The theme for the programme was “50 years of Emergency: Lessons for Indian Democracy”. In total, six students namely Shivani Charak (Sem V), Manesh Kumar (Sem V), Raja Keshav Dev (Sem V), Akash Jamwal (Sem V), Sonika Sharma (Sem V) and Chinta Devi (Sem III) participated in the event. The students who got selected for the State level round are Shivani Charak (Sem V) and Chinta Devi (Sem III). The principal of the college, Dr. Rajni Bhagat, congratulated the students and encouraged them to participate in such events in future also. The NSS volunteers of Govt. The Department of Economics, Government Degree College (GDC) Kakryal, Katra successfully conducted an intensive fifteen days internship programme on the theme “Production, Distribution, Cost–Profit Analyses and Employment Generation,” in collaboration with the renowned Khajuria Pickle Industry, Panthal. The programme aimed to enrich students’ understanding of practical industrial operations and provide exposure to real-time economic processes within a local enterprise. During the internship, students interacted closely with the management and workforce of Khajuria Pickle Industry, observing the entire production cycle—from procurement of raw materials and processing techniques to packaging and distribution channels. The interns analysed cost structures, pricing mechanisms, profit margins, labour requirements, and the industry’s role in generating employment within the region. Dr. rajni Bhagat, Principal of GDC Kakryal, lauded the initiative, stating, that this collaboration has provided our students with valuable experiential learning. Understanding the functioning of a local industry not only enhances economic literacy but also develops a sense of entrepreneurial and analytical capability among students. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Abdul Hafiz, Lecturer dept. of Economics, he emphasised on the academic significance of the internship, noting that it allowed students to apply theoretical concepts such as production functions, cost analysis, market structures, and employment theories to real-world scenarios. The aim of the event was to highlight the significance of Constitution Day and to remind students of the visionary efforts of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and the Constituent Assembly. Faculty members, non-teaching staff, and a large number of students participated enthusiastically in the ceremony. The gathering jointly read the Preamble of the Constitution of India, pledging to uphold the spirit of democracy and contribute positively to nation-building. The Department of Sociology, Government Degree CollegeKakryal, Katra successfully conducted a comprehensive fifteen days internship programme from 27-10-25 till 07-11-25 for the students of semester Vth in collaboration with ICDS PO. The theme for the research was “Role of Anganwadi Centres in the Development of the Child.” The programme aimed to provide students with practical exposure to community-based child development initiatives while strengthening their academic understanding of early childhood care systems in India. During the internship, students visited Anganwadi centres in KatraMuncipal area and actively engaged with children, caregivers, Anganwadi workers, and members of the local community. The internship provided hands-on learning about key areas such as nutritional support, preschool education, immunisationawareness, maternal health, and the overall contributions of Anganwadi centres to child growth and wellbeing. Dr. RajniBhagat, Principal of GDC Kakryal, highlighted the importance of experiential learning in higher education, stating that such programmes bridge the gap between classroom knowledge and field realities. She further added that this internship has enabled students to understand the social significance of Anganwadicentres and the challenges and prospects of grassroots child development mechanisms. Government Degree College (GDC) Kakryal, Katra, successfully organized a fifteen days Internship Programme in the discipline of Education from 1st November, 2025 till 15 November 2025. The programme aimed at enhancing teaching–learning practices and providing hands-on training to aspiring students and as a part of academic curriculum of B.A Sem V students. The programme was conducted under the overall supervision of Dr. Rajni Bhagat, principal of the college. The students were engaged in full day of academic and co-curricular activities at Government Girls Middle School Panthal. The initiative focused on promoting experiential learning, strengthening classroom teaching methodologies, and fostering meaningful interaction between trainee teachers and school children. During the programme, the students were guided by Mr. Bhushan Kumar, (Lecturer, Dept. of Education). The internship programme included subject-specific teaching sessions using child-friendly pedagogies, interactive activities designed to promote creativity and critical thinking, group learning exercises to boost student participation, awareness sessions on hygiene, discipline, and the importance of education, assessment and feedback activities to identify learning gaps. The programme was organized under the able guidance of the principal of the college, Dr. Rajni Bhagat. A total of seven participants from various semesters enthusiastically took part in the debate. The participants expressed their views on how the ideals of Vande Mataram continue to inspire the youth towards nation-building, social harmony, and a drug-free, progressive India. The event was conducted in collaboration with the NSS Unit and NCORD Unit of the college. The programme aimed to instill a sense of patriotism and cultural pride among students while highlighting the historical and emotional significance of the National Song. The event was organised under the able guidance of the principal of the college, Dr. Rajni Bhagat. The event began with a brief introduction to the origin and importance of “Vande Mataram,” followed by the singing of the narional song in which students presented soulful renditions of the song, showcasing their musical talent and devotion to the nation. In the poster-making competition, participants creatively expressed their patriotic feelings through colors and art, illustrating the spirit of “Vande Mataram” and India’s rich cultural heritage. The posters beautifully depicted themes of unity, freedom, and national pride. The Principal of the college appreciated the efforts of the participants and highlighted the importance of remembering and celebrating the symbols of India’s freedom struggle. Sonia and Mamta from sem lll bagged first position, Akshat (sem l) and Manit (sem lll) bagged second position and Aman and Tanu from sem lll got third position. The programme was organized under the able guidance of the principal of the college, Dr. Rajni Bhagat. The event began with the rendition of “Vande Mataram”, filling the hall with patriotic fervour. Prof. Mohd. Younus Saleem presented inaugural address, in his address he highlighted the significance of “Vande Mataram” as a symbol of unity and resistance during India’s freedom struggle, and its enduring relevance in nurturing a sense of national identity among youth. He encouraged students to imbibe the spirit of dedication and service to the nation. Following the inaugural session, an awareness lecture on the theme “Vande Mataram: The Song That Awakened a Nation” was delivered by Dr. Harmeet Singh, Head Dept. of Political Science. He argued that the phrase “Vande Mataram”—meaning “I bow to thee, Mother”—is not just a collection of words, but a symbol of India’s awakening, unity, and courage. He further argued that the song was composed by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay in 1870s and later included in his famous novel Anandamath (1882), the song became the rallying cry for India’s freedom struggle. He further added that at a time when the nation was under colonial subjugation and the spirit of resistance was subdued, Vande Mataram emerged as a spiritual and patriotic anthem. It invoked the image of the motherland as divine, nurturing, and worthy of devotion. The song inspired countless freedom fighters—from Bipin Chandra Pal, Aurobindo Ghosh, and Lala Lajpat Rai to Mahatma Gandhi and Subhash Chandra Bose—who found in it the strength to fight oppression. The interactive session witnessed enthusiastic participation from students of all the semesters. NSS volunteers played an active role in coordinating the event and assisting with logistics. The formal proceedings concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Usha Sharma, who expressed gratitude to resource persons, staff, and students for their cooperation and active involvement. GDC Katra in Collaboration with JKP Organises a Lecture on “Unity in Diversity” Government Degree College Katra in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir Police organised a thought-provoking Lecture on the topic “Unity in Diversity” on the eve of the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. The programme was conducted under the able leadership of the worthy Principal Dr. Rajni Bhagat. Government Degree College Kakryal (Katra) and Government Degree College Sunderbani (Rajouri) to formalize cooperation in areas of academic affairs, sports activities, skill enhancement, and compliance/preparation for NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 14-10-2025. The MoU aims to improve academic quality by sharing faculty expertise, joint workshops, research collaborations, and academic exchange.Further, to enhance sports infrastructure and encourage intercollege sports events, training, and talent development. It also aims to build student and staff skills via workshop certificate courses, soft skills training, vocational/skill‐based programs. It will also helps to prepare both institutions for NAAC accreditation by strengthening their IQACs, ensuring compliance with NAAC criteria, internal quality assurance, documentation, student feedback etc. The MoU was signed by Dr. Rajni Bhagat, Principal, GDC Kakryal and Dr. VandanaVerma, Principal, GDC Sunderbani. In a proactive step towards strengthening electoral participation and digital engagement among youth, the District Election Cell, Reasi, Electoral Registration office-58, in collaboration with the Electoral Literacy Club (ELC) of Government Degree College Katra, Kakryal, organized an innovative awareness initiative titled “Promotion and Scanning of QR Code – An Initiative Towards Increasing the Followership of College Students on Social Media Handles of Chief Electoral Officer, UT of J&K.”
The event was held today, 11th October 2025, at Hall A of the college addressed by Dr. Harmeet singh HoD Political Science and witnessed enthusiastic participation from 210 students. The program aimed to familiarize young voters with the digital platforms of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Jammu & Kashmir, thereby encouraging them to stay informed about electoral processes, voter education campaigns, and important updates related to elections.
The event was briefed by resource persons named as Mohd. Maqbool Mustafa, Jagdev Singh, Diwan Chand and RajKumar ji. During the event, students scanned a specially designed QR code linking directly to the official social media handles of the CEO, J&K. This innovative outreach effort seeks to enhance transparency, accessibility, and voter engagement among the youth — the most dynamic segment of the electorate.
In the event Dr Sajad Iqbal Khan HoD Environmental Sciences and representatives from the District Election Cell highlighted the significance of such digital initiatives in fostering informed, responsible, and participatory citizenship. course of the whole day. NSS volunteers coordinated the activity, ensuring that the event
remained inclusive and participatory. The event was organized under the guidance of the worthy

Govt. Degree College Kakryal, Katra organized an awareness programme on SIGMA portal on 30th of
September 2025. The Higher Education Department of Jammu & Kashmir has introduced the SIGMA
portal (Student Integrated Grievance & Messaging Application), among other ICT initiatives, to improve
transparency, responsiveness, and communication between students and administrative bodies. The
programme was organized to familiarize students, faculty, and staff with SIGMA: its purpose, how it
works, and how it can be used effectively. The main objectives of the awareness programme were to
introduce the SIGMA portal, its features, and its benefits to the college community and to train students
and staff how to lodge grievances, track them, and effectively communicate via SIGMA. The programme
began with a welcome address by the Principal of the college, Dr. Rajni Bhagat. She gave a brief
overview of recent ICT initiatives by the J&K Higher Education Department, including SIGMA. A detailed
presentation on SIGMA portal was delivered by Prof. Mohd. Younus Saleem which included details of
SIGMA: what it is, objectives, expected outcomes, how to access the portal: URL
(https://directorcollegesjk.in/sigmalogin.aspx) and login procedure. Further, Live demo of filling out
grievance form; tracking the status; messaging; escalation path was also demonstrated. The awareness
programme at GDC Kakryal successfully introduced the SIGMA portal to the college community. It
helped in demystifying the grievance process, encouraging student participation, and setting
expectations for improved communication. While some challenges remain, especially around access and
response time, the initiative represents an important step toward more accountable and student
friendly higher education governance in J&K. Students from all the semesters were present during the

To commemorate the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the NSS Unit of Government Degree College Kakryal, Katra, organized a Sanitation Drive, as a tribute to the Father of the Nation and in alignment with the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Sewa Parv. The drive was organized under the able guidance of the worthy principal, Dr. Rajni Bhagat. The drive commenced at 11:00 AM with a short address by the NSS Programme Officer, Dr. Usha Sharma, who briefed the students on the objectives and significance of the drive and encouraged everyone to participate with dedication and enthusiasm. Over 50 NSS volunteers actively participated in the drive. The sanitation activities were conducted in and around the college campus, including classrooms, corridors, lawns, playgrounds, and nearby public areas. Volunteers collected plastic waste, swept the grounds, cleared bushes etc. Slogans like "Cleanliness is next to Godliness," "Be the change you want to see," and "Swachh Bharat, Sundar Bharat" were raised by the volunteers throughout the campaign to inspire fellow students and the local community. stated that Dr. Radhakrishnan’s vision of education continues to guide us in the modern era as well.

Degree College Kakryal Katra, in collaboration with the Red Ribbon Club and NSS Unit, organised a Tiranga Rally from the college premises to Panthal Chowk to mark the spirit of nationalism and unity. Government Degree College Kakaryal Katra observed International Yoga Day under the theme “Yoga for One Earth One Health” with great enthusiasm today on June 21, 2025. The event commenced with an inaugural address by Dr. Rajni Bhagat Principal of the college, who described the Assans of Yoga as a priceless gift to the entire world, originating in India over a thousand years ago. In her address, worthy Principal emphasized that Yoga teaches us the balance between body and mind, between thought and action, and between restraint and fulfilment. She highlighted the relevance of Yoga in today’s fast-paced world, where stress and anxiety have become common. “The practice of Yoga,” he said, “offers a path to peace, discipline, and overall well-being.” Following the principal's address, a live Yoga demonstration was conducted by Dr. Usha Sharma (HOD Sociology) where students and staff actively participated and learned various Yoga postures and breathing techniques. Government Degree College Kakryal, Katra celebrated Ambedkar Jayanti with great enthusiasm and reverence, in collaboration with dept. of Sociology, IQAC and NSS Unit, marking the 134th birth anniversary of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the principal architect of the Indian Constitution and a champion of social justice. The event commenced with the garlanding of Dr. Ambedkar’s portrait by the Principal, faculty members, and students, followed by a brief address highlighting his immense contributions to Indian society, especially in the fields of law, education, and social injustice. A debate competition was organized to honor the legacy of Dr. Ambedkar. Students delivered speeches, and participated in debate competition on themes Dr. Ambedkar's Vision for India: Equality and Justice in the India. In her address, Dr. Rajni Bhagat, the Principal of the college emphasized the relevance of Dr. Ambedkar's ideals in contemporary times and encouraged students to uphold the values of equality, liberty, and fraternity. Shivani Charak from Sem IVth, Anshika Sharma from Sem VIth and Sakshi Sharma from Sem IVth bagged first, second and third positions respectively. Prof. Nasar Ahmed and Dr. Manisha were the jury members for the event. Prof. Mohd. Younus also addressed the students and shared his views. organized a motivational lecture on the topic “Fit Mind, Fit Body, Fit India.” The event
commenced with a welcome address by Prof. Mohd Younus Saleem, who also
coordinated the program. He outlined the upcoming activities planned under the
initiative, aimed at promoting fitness and well-being among students. The program
was conducted under the esteemed guidance of the Principal, Dr. Rajni Bhagat.
Large number of students from all the semesters showed their presence and made
the event a great success. Prof. Mohd Younus Saleem, from the Department of
English, served as the resource person and delivered an insightful lecture on the
importance of fitness. He urged students to adopt a healthy lifestyle by avoiding junk
food and incorporating natural fruits and homemade meals into their diet. He further
emphasized the significance of exercise, yoga, meditation, and gym workouts in
daily life. “If you adopt a healthy lifestyle at this young age, it will strengthen your
immunity and help you combat diseases in later years of your life” he advised.
Worthy Principal also encouraged the students to change their eating habits and

The session was attended by all the staff members and the students of sem II. The group discussion revolved around several critical themes related to women’s empowerment and the significance of celebrating International Women's Day. The principal of the college, Dr. Rajni Bhagat, also addressed the students and emphasized that women’s empowerment is not just a women’s issue but a societal one. Both men and women need to contribute to creating an equal society. The group discussion on International Women’s Day was an enriching and thought-provoking session, which underscored the importance of continuing to push for gender equality in all spheres of life. Govt. Degree College Kakryal katra organised a singing competition on 10-03-25 to celebrate international women's day 2025. The event aimed to honor the achievements, strength, and resilience of women across the globe by showcasing the talent of women in music. Participants from various semesters competed in the event, performing songs that celebrated womanhood, empowerment, and equality. The event was organized by IQAC in collaboration with CASH committee of the college. The objective was to provide a platform for students to showcase their talents and to foster a sense of community in celebrating Women's Day. The judging panel included Prof Shikha Bhasin and Dr. Manisha Kumari. The competition featured outstanding performances, with participants pouring their emotions into songs that resonated with the audience. At the conclusion of the competition, winners were announced, and Sonika, Mehak and Madhu bagged Ist, 2nd and 3rd prize. . The performances echoed the spirit of International Women's Day, highlighting how music can be a powerful medium for change and celebration. Dr. Rajni Bhagat, principal of the college expressed her gratitude and encouraged all participants and the audience for making the event memorable. All the staff member were present during the event.
